First, we must understand what makes a student proficient in this area. A student is proficient if they: demonstrate the ability to properly operate a power supply, use the correct voltage for the task, match the electrodes correctly, and run the gel for the appropriate amount of time.
Now that we know what makes a student proficient, we can begin to talk about where I have applied these skills. In the electrophoresis lab, we had to operate the power supply after seeing our instructor do it. We had detailed instructions that told us the voltage, the amount of time to run the gel, and color coded electrodes that made it simpler for us to understand. However, if we did not have such detailed instructions we also learned that the negative matches with the negative, and positive with positive.
